Clearly the best sounding W3's yet, these subwoofers feature DMA-optimized, long linear excursion capability to minimize distortion and increase output. 12W3v3's are available in single 2 ohm, 4 ohm and 8 ohm versions and are superb performers at medium power levels in compact sealed or ported enclosures. Multiple patented technologies enhance performance and reliability. As with JL Audio's flagship drivers, development was guided by JL Audio's proprietary DMA (Dynamic Motor Analysis) modeling system to deliver outstanding dynamic stability and low-distortion operation within their intended power envelope. A mineral-filled polypropylene upper cone body with a metallic JL Audio logo medallion provides a classy new look, while a removable (and customizable) mounting flange trim ring receives grille-mesh inserts directly, without the need for additional grille hardware. (Grille mesh inserts are sold separately.)
Key Technologies of JL Audio's W3v3 Series Subwoofers:
Vented Reinforcement Collar [VRC]
Further enhances cooling by forcing air to flow across the top of the voice coil. The VRC also reinforces the critical cone / spider / voice coil joint, resulting in superior mechanical integrity.
DMA Optimized Motor System
DMA is JL Audio's proprietary Dynamic Motor Analysis system and is aimed at improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W1v2 motors remain linear in motor force over a long range of excursion and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. This leads to vastly reduced distortion and faithfully reproduced transients... or put simply: tight, clean, articulate bass.
Elevated Frame Cooling
The elevated frame design of the W1v2 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.
Spider and Lead Wire Assembly
Nickel-plated brass push terminals combine with strain relief features to ensure solid contact and lead-wire reliability. All new, hybrid-weave, progressive-roll flat spiders are preassembled, using a patent-pending process, onto a composite carrier to ensure optimum alignment of the suspension.
Surround Stress-Relief
By creating a radiused feature on the edge of the cone, stress is relieved from the surround material at maximum forward excursion, resulting in longer life and more consistent surround behavior.
Floating Cone Attach Method (FCAM™)
JL Audio's patented FCAM™ technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround / cone assembly to the voice coil former / spider assembly. This feature helps ensure concentricity of the surround, spider and voice coil without torquing the suspension to achieve it. This allows for the inevitable, slight variations in production part dimensions without having them negatively impact the integrity of the suspension and coil-centering at high excursions.
Customizable Trim Ring
This ABS trim ring is molded in black, but that doesn't mean it has to stay that way. By custom painting it, you can match your installation theme and create a personalized look.
